Paying attention to curb appeal is a proven way to get the best price for your home and a quick sale. According to a recent Door + Access Systems article, a garage door replacement on average recoups 102.7% of the purchase price.
To get a great return on your garage door investment, choose a quality door and have it professionally installed. At minimum, you should choose a door that:
- Is made by a reputable manufacturer and the door sections, track and hardware all come from that same manufacturer.
- Has heavy-duty galvanized tracks, quality hinges, ball-bearing rollers and adequate reinforcing trusses.
- Sections are made of high-strength steel and high-density polyurethane foam insulation.
- Includes weather seals for the jambs, header and bottom section.
And consider adding windows – they are an excellent upgrade that brings light into the garage and make a home look great.
Finally, vet the garage door company. Things to check include reputation, business and contractor’s licenses and proof of insurance. The company should have at minimum 5 years documented experience. Are the installers trained and employed by the company or do they use a subcontractor?
