How to Lubricate your Garage Door

February 20, 2017

When: Every 6 months
Lubricant: Silicone based or garage door lubricant
Where: Steel rollers, hinges, springs, spring shaft, end bearings. Do not spray lubricant on nylon tired rollers.
Time: 10-15 minutes
Cost: $15 for a can of garage door lubricant
Safety: Close the door and disconnect the electric operator before beginning.
To keep your garage door running smoothly and quietly, apply silicone based oil every six months to the hinges, rollers (bearings and shafts), springs and the spring end bearings. If the rollers have nylon tires, do not spray that portion of the roller.

USE SILICONE BASED LUBRICANT ONLY

 Hinges (end)
Rollers, bearings & roller shafts
Hinges (center)
Spring (entire surface), spring shaft & end bearings

If your rollers have black or white nylon rollers, do not spray the tires with lubricant. Lubricate the roller shafts only.

After lubricating the door, open and close it a few times to distribute the lubricant.
